SIOUX CITY, Iowa—The Sioux City Musketeers ended the USHL Fall Classic West on a high-note, defeating their rival Sioux Falls Stampede Thursday night, 5-4.
The Stampede looked like they were going to run away with the game, when midway through the second period they went up 2-0. C.J. Franklin scored the first goal for Sioux Falls in the first, and Zeb Knutson lit the lamp in the second.
Sioux City battled back though, rattling off the next four goals. Nikolas Olsson and Dylan Plitt each scored in the second to tie the game at two going into the second intermission.
The Muskies jumped out to a 4-2 lead, scoring the first two goals of the third period by Avery Peterson and Kyle Schmidt, but the Stampede would not go down easily.
Knutson and Franklin both scored within three minutes of each other to tie it up at four.
Austin Adduono scored the game-winning goal for Sioux City with 2:43 remaining in the game.
The Muskies open up their regular season at Fargo on September 20.
