WAYNE, Neb.—The No. 7 Wayne State College Wildcats survived a third-set scare against the University of Sioux Falls, but improved to 9-0 on the season.
After rolling to 25-13 and 25-15 wins in the first two games, the Cougars led by as many as four in the third, including three set points, but couldn't finish off the Wildcats.
A kill by Cori Hobbs ended the third and the match at 28-26. The win gives Wayne State a 1-0 record in Northern Sun Conference action. The Cougars fall to 7-2 (0-1).
Alyssa Frauendorfer led the way with a game-high 16 kills, followed by Hobbs with 14. Leisa McClintock added 42 assists from her setter position and three Wildcats (Hobbs, Katie Hughes, and Courtney VanGroningen) had double-digit digs.
Wayne State returns to action on Saturday in a top-ten clash with Southwest Minnesota State.
