TULSA, Okla.--Iowa State forced four Tulsa turnovers and Jeff Woody scored three touchdowns as the Cyclones got their first win of the season, 38-21 over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane Thursday night.
It was the third meeting between the two teams in the last thirteen months, and Iowa State got revenge for a Liberty Bowl loss last December.
Woody, who only had six carries for twelve yards, scored his first touchdown while the game was scoreless in the first quarter.
Tulsa's Cody Green, a former quarterback at the University of Nebraska, found Thomas Roberson in the back of the end zone in the second quarter, where Roberson made a spectacular play to rip the ball away from the ISU defender. That touchdown gave the Golden Hurricane a 14-7 lead.
The Cyclones would answer though right before half as Sam Richardson connected with Jarvis West with just 0:15 remaining in the quarter, and the two teams were deadlocked at 14.
Iowa State outscored the Hurricane 24-7 in the second half to roll to a 38-21 victory, the first of the season for the Cyclones.
The Cyclones are back home next Thursday, Oct. 3, when they host Texas.
