SPIRIT LAKE, Iowa--Rivalry games are usually memorable on their own. But Spirit Lake junior Carly Ites will likely remember last night's against Spencer a little longer than most.
With time running out in the second quarter, Ites grabbed a rebound and threw up a prayer from the opposite free throw line, hitting the shot after the buzzer sounded.
Ites said that she thought there was "no way" the ball would go in and that she wasn't even looking at the basket.
The buzzer beater got the team going crazy in the locker room, even though they faced a three-point half-time deficit.
They were fired up enough though to come back in the second half and win the game against the Tigers.
The winning margin? Three points.
