Variety Club Special Events

In addition to the annual telethon, the Variety Club also holds special fundraiser events throughout the year.

Cash for Kids

"Cash for Kids" is the Variety Clubs largest fundraiser. It is now in its 19th year. The Iowa Grocery Industry Association together with the Variety Club produce a coupon redemption program and a case sales program, which benefits consumers along with the Variety Club charities. The Iowa food industry also hosts numerous "Cash for Kids" fund raisers year round. Iowa grocery wholesalers, retailers, manufacturers and food brokers have raised more than $9 million with this program to help disabled and disadvantaged children.

Gold Hearts

Gold Heart pins are sold each year as a symbol of children in need. Each year the pin changes, making it a great collectors item, and a lasting tribute to children everywhere. The pins are sold throughout Iowa and neighboring states. The Variety Club asks people to show they care by "wearing their heart on their sleeve". Look for Gold Hearts in retail locations near you.

Telethon VIP Panels

An integral part of every telethon are the panels of VIPs, or "Very Interested Persons". VIP panelists work miracles. They raise awareness and money throughout the year, with their enthusiasm building for their 2 hours on the front-line phones during the telethon. VIPs across the state generate over $1 million by collecting pledges both large and small.
