Best of the Class 2012

Best of the Class - 2012 was held on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Morningside College, Famous Dave's, Student Loan Finance Corporation, and Channel 9 KCAU-TV are proud to be celebrating the "Best of the Class" program. Though many of you may not know this, the"Best of the Class" began back in 1983 to recognize and encourage academic excellence. Since then, the program has grown and expanded into the Tri-state area. Today, we have 95 valedictorians representing schools from South Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa. Each school was asked to send their top-academically-ranked student to be represented. The program is designed to honor academic excellence and salute those who have achieved it.

Invitations were sent to 150 Siouxland schools. It was a beautiful day, even with the threat of severe weather. There were 95 schools represented to showcase their Valedictorians. The day consisted of the students getting recorded wearing their cap and gown, treated to lunch from Famous Dave's, then a lunch program, followed by the group shot.

The Keynote address was given by Terri Curry is Vice President for Student Life and Enrollment at Morningside College, a position she has held since 2000. She came to Morningside College in 1985 as Director of Housing and later served as Dean of Students. In 1999, she was named to position of Dean of Student Affairs and Admissions. Terri has a Master's Degree in Educational Psychology and Counseling from the University of South Dakota and a Bachelor's Degree from Briar Cliff University. Terri and her husband Kevin live with their three children near Elk Point, South Dakota.

The video commercials that feature all the students will begin airing on Channel 9 KCAU-TV 9.1 and also on Live Well Network channel 9.2 beginning May 11, 2012.
